The deal is, that if you believe that at the end of any sequence of numbers you can just add a 1...you believe in the existence of infinity...if you believe in the existence of infinity you have to agree that there is not only another you out there...there are multiple you's 

well, I have heard that everyone on the planet has a 'twin'..which would make sense in the theory that out of the billions of people on the planet, someone, somewhere, would have a dna strand that hooked up like mine (still on the fence on whether that would be a good thing or not). But when you start to figure in that the parents of my twin would have to be the twins of my own parents, and the likelyhood that the two parental twins on the planet just happened to hook up and make a mini-me..the odds are less than likely. But I'm open to the theory being possible.

It's just an old superstition, I can't remember which culture it comes from but I think it might be from the Germanic 'Doppelganger' myth.

There is a finite variety of atoms in the Universe and they combine in certain ways...in an infinite amount of galaxies a chance has to be presented that they've combined in a near identical way...there will be a Jimmy Blonde in an Australia somewhere that actually makes some sense.....

My response to that would be, looking at it from a numerical sequence... you drop a ball from a 1 meter  height, first it falls 1/2 meter, then 1/2 of a half meter and so on, and so on...theoretically you should be able to halve meters to an infinite number and  the ball would never hit the ground...but yet, it does, causing a finite.

But if the Universe is infinite then, per se, we could never come to the end of it and therefore the variety of atoms is also infinite. Not that our feeble minds are capable of handling the concept of the universe in it's entirity i can only presume that the trick here is time and that as men have been told for years " size doesn't matter but time does" that's my thoughts anyway....... it's all about wrapped up time dudes.

Exactly. We don't know how much energy, we don't know how many varieties of atoms, we don't even know how big the universe is.

 I think we would need to know the exact (or at least, pretty damn close) size of something before we could begin to estimate, with any semblance of accuracy, anything about it.

I know/agree...deBauch is the one who said atoms were finite. I agree, the  universe is infinite, at least until we find the ends of it. And even if we did find the ends of the universe..what is on the other side of the end? a vast nothingness? Is it possible for something to truly have no end?

Nonuniverse. Actually, the universe is sort of an outdated topic. These days with string theory and its 11 dimensions, scientists are talking about the multiverse and an endless array of universes that we cant even see. The one we live in might be a grain of sand on the beach. Kind of like being a bacteria on Earth.

they always claim that you can get to England from Australia on the energy in a half a glass of water....my arguement is, "then why don't they?"

With regards to "infinity" no human brain can imagine it...and trying to, like doing the experiment I suggested at the start of this thread, is mentally tiring....it literally wears you out....

I'm not saying that there are a finite amount of atoms rather that the basic building blocks remain the same throughout the observable universe.  There always remains the possibility that a certain corner of the universe exists where there are different atoms that react or combine with each other in a different way or are subject to different laws.  However, from what we so far understand there is a uniformity or a rhythm...a combination of 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom will make water on earth as it would do on Mars.

If this is indeed the case and the universe is infinite there must be another you

There are most likely no advanced civilisations in our vicinity...the reasoning...if you consider that we've gone from the stone age to space travel within a mere couple of thousand years and then factor in that our galaxy has been in existence for a few billion years its a reasonable proposition to make.  Of course there remains the possibility that civilisations have come and gone.....

I agree, wholeheartedly, that there are no other civilizations within our vicinity. We've only managed to accomplish a short distance (short, when you consider the vastness of the known universe). The question I have is: Is there a planet outside our vicinity/realm of exploration that has life? I believe there is. There are civilizations we don't know about on our own planet...I have no doubt that the same holds true 'out there', where no man has boldly gone before *insert Star Trek theme song here*
