Why do the British still cling to royal bloodlines?
« on: February 23, 2009, 11:50:20 PM »

I'm not so sure that most still do but maybe some of our Northern Atlantic friends can shed some light on the topic.

I mean seriously, what an inane way to choose a head of state or even a state figurehead - by the death of a parent. The ole heir and the spare, no matter how dysfunctional and witless they may be.

Obviously Britain isnt alone in this as many other countries all over the world including democracies still practice this. Though it puts them in the same category as the Castros in Cuba and the Dear and Great Leaders of North Korea. Ascension by birth and bloodlines.

To me it's incredible that so many countries still practice this and along with religion shows just how primitive the human race as a civilization still is. A thousand years from now if there is still an inhabited world left, people will be looking back at us in this day in age like we view the backwardness of the Dark Ages.

My question is why does Britain still have a monarchy? Do you all still really need a relic of an antiquated feudal system to rally around and feel good about your country? What's going to happen to British prestige when that supreme dork extraordinaire Charles assumes the throne with his hideous life partner, Camilla Parker Bowles? Will that be the last straw?

Theoretically the queen can dissolve the government and appoint an interim one if they misbehave.
A shit load of law would have to be re-written... the cost of all the new letterheads might bankrupt the country.

Who the fuck would approve the tea and rubber wellingtons if there was no royal seal of approval?

I still support the monarchy, Australia is part of the Commonwealth and the monarchy gives us something to rally around in difficult times.

I'm not really impressed with the prospect of King Charlie but individual monarchs come and go, it's the institution that counts. As Pete said a monarch is able to dissolve an errant government, it has authority but not much in the way of practical, day to day power.

Take, for example, the Dutch and Queen Wilhelmina during WW2. The Dutch queen served as a figurehead in exile and a rallying point for the efforts and hopes of Dutch loyalists and resistance fighters.

It is also possible for the monarchy to recognise and reward outstanding achievements and bestow titles upon worthy subjects, the prefix 'Sir' or 'Lady' etc still carries some weight and can be loaned to a worthy cause.

All in all having a monarch doesn't do any harm but the potential benefits justify keeping the practise alive.

I dont think she even pays taxes,

Quote
The sovereign is subject to indirect taxes such as value added tax, and since 1993 the Queen has paid income tax and capital gains tax on personal income. The Civil List and Grants-in-Aid are not treated as income as they are solely for official expenditure.[95]

Er............ nope

The Crown Estate is now a statutory corporation run on commercial lines by the Crown Estate Commissioners and generates revenue of around ?190 million for HM Treasury every year, greatly exceeding the costs of the Civil List.[1] For example, it owns much of Regent Street in London.

Maybe a number of years ago the Queen cost us readies but were gettin it all back now  Although what will happen when Gonzo takes over fuck knows . Could be worse, one of the other useless cunts, Gaylord, Gormless or the Horse Princess could get their hands on the jewels.  :hammer:

Anyway, until then we'll just carry on counting the cash that you dumb fuckin yanks keep giving us to stand on a windswept Mall whilst old Queenie sends out one of the kitchen maids to Troop The Colour and you lot would never know.  :rotf: :rotf:

There ya go

Not only do the whole pile of snots earn their weight in Corgi's from tourism we also milk the class thing like there's no rebublican tomorrow.

Sticky arms contract in Oman ?  Not enough camels being greased ?  The chap at British Aerospace didn't have a briefcase big enough for the bung ?..... all sorted, send in Her Madge.  A spot of tea and crumpets on the poop deck of Britannia with the local heavy hitting rag head and its contracts signed before you can say who's for polo.

There are enough retards out there that have this weird fucked up regal vision of our dear Queen, there's even one crew of Papua New Guineans that believe Charles is grassy god birthed from the loins of their farting volcano god.

As soon as they lose their usefulness its a quick trip down to a Ekaterinburg country house's cellar  :snack:

So I take it you two lads are in favor of preserving the monarchy and having Charles and maybe even his Nazi costume wearing son take over after the Queen nets me 40 points on my dead list pool?

If by "Charles" you're referring to our plant conversationalist throwback who married a horse and didn't even know, if by "son" you mean the little ginger tosser who stands about as much chance of becoming king as i do and if by "Queen" you mean the woman who has every facility of modern medicine and more us mere mortals are unaware of so you'll never see your poxy 40 points? Then yes  :elle: :elle:
