Tragic case illustrating the madness of marijuana laws
« on: March 14, 2009, 02:00:09 AM »

Chris Hansen's much more lengthy report about the same story.. http://tinyurl.com/ag353j

This is not only about horrible police work but also about the crassness of drug laws. This whole thing would have been avoided if marijuana were legal. The idea of charging college kids with a few grams of it with felonies and treating them as criminals is insane.

Hopefully the economic crisis and government revenue shortfalls plus the new administration in the Justice Dept will be the push we need for a state like California to start decriminalizing pot, stop making criminals out of people who arent and start regulating it and taxing it.

Charging people with enough pot for a couple of joints with felonies and forcing them to be police informants is not the way to a better society.

Not going to happen old boy.  Here's the conclusion of last weeks UN Commission for Narcotic Drugs (CND) convention....

Even suggestions of a more enlightened approach to "harm reduction" fell on deaf ears....

"Foes of such programs, including the United States, Russia, China, Japan and Italy, said they legitimize drug use and undermine law enforcement and public morality"

So its ten more years of the same  :rotf:

Here is an interesting recent article and a spot on editorial by The Economist of all places

California is looking on the positive side of Marijuana consumption.  If you can't beat them, legalize and tax them!
