Highly recommended, if you like art-house films.

This German film from the post-classical age of cinema works as an eerie allegory of the US, up to the culmination of the Trump era. It takes place decades after the destruction of the Incan civilization by the Spanish conquistadors. An expedition into the jungle gets underway to find the legendary city of El Dorado. After days of no success, a smaller expedition is split off to find it. Slaves, servants and a few family members are along for the ride. Somewhere along the way, Aguirre, the 2nd in command, seizes control of the caravan and it, including his injured and defeated rivals, head into a surreal but predictable end in pursuit of the golden city.

The allegory between the pursuit of magical wealth, at all costs, and the fantasy of boundless gains without any plans for sustainability, aka capitalism plays out beautifully. Slaves drop dead left and right, grunts get picked off by hostiles, but the delusional desperation ever barely touches the attention of those in command, to the bitter end. The figure head "emperor" even has a make-shift feast and complains about lack of spices while the soldiers count grains. The titular hero, Aguirre, even brings along his daughter, whom he has an unnatural thing for. The self-deluded, raving lunatic that is Aguirre wouldn't be more frightening if he was real and in command by comparison to what we currently have.

Also, this was the movie that inspired the visuals in Apocalypse Now.

I am a very stable genius.

Mecha, lowbrow morons can’t make this stretch.  They need something to blow up rull good to make it a movie worth the price of the popcorn.  And some tittays.  And a Murican flag stuck in somebody’s ass!

Well, I did post the caveat at the beginning "if you like art-house films". Surely, even those yahoos are not dumb enough to not understand that. If they're that dumb, then I guess they fell down the cellar and died when they failed at tying their shoelaces. RIP.
